Bilbao, the capital of Bizkaia, is the heart of a metropolis with over a million inhabitants. It is located on the banks of the Nervion River and 11 km from the Bay of Biscay which communicates with its estuary. This last has been essential in its industrial and economic development since its foundation (1300), and in its course towards the sea, brings together municipalities that make up the region of Great Bilbao.
Bilbao is a major economic and cultural focus of the north of the peninsula and an architectural and artistic international reference whose business card is the famous Guggenheim Museum, offering visitors numerous and varied proposals for leisure and culture. When planning the journey, you should be aware that in addition to the interesting suggestions of the city, there are places of great charm to a step and that Bilbao is the gateway to many other northern peninsular places.
